Water is a precious resource.  The Town of Ladysmith has taken a number of measures to protect our water supply and to reduce the amount of water we use.

Save Water at Home

Saving water can also save you money. With a little effort, we can reduce the water we use at home by as much as 40 per cent.

In the House:

  • Install a low flow toilet
  • Don’t keep the tap running when brushing your teeth, washing your hands, cleaning vegetables, washing dishes, shaving, etc.
  • Take short showers instead of baths
  • Run full loads in your washing machine and dishwasher

In the Garden:

  • Choose drought-resistant and native plant species
  • Collect rainwater in a barrel and use it for watering
  • Make sure your sprinkler is only watering your lawn and beds, not the paved areas
  • Don't cut your grass too short
  • Accept a less than lush lawn
  • Use mulch on your gardens to hold water

Outside:

  • Sweep, don't hose off, your driveway, deck, walkway and patio
  • Cover your swimming pool and hot tub when not in use to reduce evaporation
  • Use decorative fountains only when you are there to enjoy them
  • Wash windows with a bucket and squeegee instead of a hose

A Word About Water Meters

You can use your water meter to check for leaks in your system. Turn off all taps. If the red arrow (low flow indicator) on your water meter is moving, you have a leak. If you think you have a leak, call Infrastructure Services at 250.245.6445.

Please keep your meter clear of brush, debris and parked vehicles to help our meter readers do their jobs.
