2025 By-Election Information

The Town of Ladysmith will hold a by-election in the first quarter of 2025, following the resignation of Mayor Stone.

Why a By-Election?

The Local Government Act requires that a by-election be conducted to fill a vacancy when circumstances arise, such as a resignation. In this case, Mayor Stone's departure has created the need for a new mayor to be elected.

Key Details

  • Appointment of Chief Election Officer: A Chief Election Officer will be appointed to oversee the by-election process.
  • Election Date: The exact election date will be set within 80 days of the appointment of the Chief Election Officer, ensuring ample time for preparation and community engagement.

Elections

General Local Elections are held every four years on the third Saturday in October and the Town runs its own elections according to Provincial laws. The last General Local Election was held Saturday, October 15, 2022, where all eligible Town of Ladysmith voters elected their Council which consists of one Mayor and six Councillors.
