Deena Beeston to be sworn-in as mayor at special ceremony on March 18

Ladysmith, BC – The Town of Ladysmith is pleased to announce that mayor-elect Deena Beeston will be officially sworn-in as mayor at a special ceremony on March 18 at the Ladysmith Senior’s Centre, 630 2nd Avenue.

The ceremony will take place at 7:00 pm at the beginning of the Regular Council Meeting. Those who are unable to attend the meeting will be able to watch it live on the Town’s YouTube channel.

Beeston will be the 23rd mayor in Ladysmith’s history and only the second woman to hold the position.

“We encourage residents to attend, either in person or virtually, the swearing-in ceremony to witness this important occasion in Ladysmith’s history,” says Acting Mayor Tricia McKay.

With 854 ballots cast in her favour, Beeston received the highest number of votes in the 2025 mayoral by-election, which was held on March 1. Beeston takes over for Acting Mayor, Tricia McKay, who had been in the role since October, following the resignation of Aaron Stone in September.
