Ladysmith, BC — Residents will have ample opportunities this month to cast their votes in the 2025 by-election for the mayoral seat on Ladysmith Town Council.
Advance voting for the 2025 by-election will take place on Wednesday, February 19 and Wednesday, February 26 from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm at City Hall.
General voting in the by-election will take place on Saturday, March 1 between the hours of 8:00 am and 8:00 pm at the Frank Jameson Community Centre.
Voter registration is available on the day of voting. To be eligible to vote, you must be 18 or older, a Canadian Citizen and resident of the Town of Ladysmith or a registered Town of Ladysmith property owner and resident of British Columbia for at least six months before voting day.
Individuals who are not registered, must bring two pieces of ID that prove your residency and identity, including one with your signature.
Mail ballot voting is available for those expecting to be absent or who are unable to vote in person.
Individuals must complete and submit a mail ballot application to receive a Mail Ballot. Applications are available online or can be picked up at the front counter at City Hall during regular business hours. The deadline for applications is Friday, February 28 at 12:00 pm.
"The Town is steadfast in its desire to ensure that all who wish to cast their vote in the by-election are afforded the opportunity to do so. In the spirit of fairness and accessibility, advance voting will be held on February 19 and February 26, and mail ballot voting will be provided for those individuals who are qualified," says Donna Smith, the Town's Chief Elections Officer.
The by-election was triggered after long-time Mayor Aaron Stone stepped down from his role as mayor last September. He had been the Town's mayor since 2014.
