Town holding second open house for new Ladysmith skatepark

Ladysmith, BC — Have your say on the new Ladysmith skatepark design at an upcoming open house.

The Town of Ladysmith will be holding the second public workshop regarding the new skatepark on December 11, 2024, at 6:15 pm at the Frank Jameson Community Centre (lower level).

During the workshop, attendees will be able to view three proposed designs for the new skatepark. Individuals will also be able to complete an online survey about the proposed skatepark designs. Input from the workshop and the online survey will guide the Town in shaping the new skatepark design.

The online survey will be available on Let's Talk Ladysmith starting at 5:30 pm on December 11, 2024 until 4:00 pm on January 2, 2025.

"The redesign of the skatepark is an exciting project that will serve the community for years to come, and community input is a key part of its success," says Nicholas Pescod, the Town's Communication & Engagement Specialist.

The current skatepark first opened in 1999, the same year Tony Hawk's Pro Skater was released. Although it was revamped in 2011, the time has come for a new skatepark design that’s fresh, inclusive for skaters, bikers, and riders of all levels.

As a result, the Town is moving forward with a feasibility study to assess what’s needed now and in the future and to determine construction costs. The Town is also working with New Line Skatepark Inc. to create the design.

The December workshop follows up a well-attended first workshop that was held in October, drawing over 40 people to the Frank Jameson Community Centre (FJCC).
