Ladysmith, BC - Town of Ladysmith Mayor and Council held a Community to Community meeting with Stz'uminus First Nation Chief and Council on Thursday, September 12, at Oyster Bay Marina, where they discussed projects of mutual interest and benefit.
The meeting served as an opportunity for elected officials from both communities to engage in productive dialogue, exchange ideas, deepen relationships and foster meaningful connections in an open and welcoming environment.
"We are deeply grateful to Chief John Elliot and the Stz’uminus leadership for providing this invaluable opportunity to strengthen our meaningful connections and collaboratively explore initiatives that will benefit both of our communities. The Town of Ladysmith is firmly committed to ongoing dialogue and engaging in meaningful initiatives with Stz’uminus leadership that will bring long-term benefits to both of our communities for years to come," said Mayor Aaron Stone.
"The opportunity to come together and engage in meaningful open discussions about the work of Stz'uminus First Nation and the Town of Ladysmith is invaluable. Stz'uminus will always have a deep understanding of what is in the best interest of the local environment. Through continued partnership and collaboration, we are dedicated to strengthening our communities, not just for today, but for generations to come," said Stz'uminus First Nation Chief John Elliot.
Last week’s meeting was funded through the Provincial Government's Regional Community to Community (C2C) program, which promotes reconciliation and relationship-building between First Nations and local governments. C2C supports various initiatives that include developing agreements, creating joint plans or strategies, and conducting joint reviews of bylaws and policies.
