Stage 2 water restrictions now in effect for Ladysmith area

Ladysmith, July 11, 2024 – Stage 2 water restrictions are now in effect for the Town of Ladysmith, Stz’uminus First Nation, and the Diamond Improvement District until further notice.

The move to Stage 2 coincides with the Province's decision to elevate East Vancouver Island to Drought Level 3. All water systems across the Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD) are under Stage 2 except for Burnam, which has moved to Stage 3.

Residents are expected to follow CVRD guidelines for watering times and avoid washing driveways, houses and sidewalks. Water restrictions are intended to help control water usage as demand increases with the hot, dry weather.

Under Stage 2, outdoor watering is not permitted between 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. This is because watering in the evening, nighttime or early morning reduces water wasted due to evaporation and spreads peak water use. Lawn sprinkling is allowed for 2 hours per designated day (Wednesdays for even-numbered addresses and Sundays for odd-numbered addresses).
