Alternative Approval Process results for new City Hall released

Ladysmith, June 26, 2024 - The certified results from the Town of Ladysmith's Alternative Approval Process (AAP) for a new City Hall have been released.

A total of 2,135 electors (28.8%) submitted valid response forms before the June 25 deadline opposing the $13.5 million loan authorization bylaw for the construction of a new City Hall and institutional space on Buller Street and 1st Avenue.

The Alternative Approval Process, as per provincial legislation, required the Town to receive less than 741 responses in order for approval to be obtained.

"We respect the results of the Alternative Approval Process and will carefully consider next steps. We are committed to moving forward and exploring alternative solutions that align with the needs and priorities of our staff and community as a whole," says Mayor Aaron Stone.

Council will receive the certified AAP results at their regular meeting on July 2, 2024.
