Ladysmith Council Notebook for June 18, 2024

Ladysmith, June 19, 2024 – Ladysmith Council met for a Regular Meeting of Council on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, with the skatepark community painting project, fire services work plan and the BC Hydro DC charging station agreement among the agenda highlights.

Council kicked off the meeting by awarding $38,500 to Tim Pley & Associates to develop a Fire Services Strategic Work Plan. Once developed, the plan will be used to help inform decision making regarding facilities, vehicles and overall fire operations within the Town.

Council then agreed to have Town staff work with the Ladysmith Skatepark Collective on the Skatepark Community Painting Project. The Ladysmith Skatepark Collective are a local group of skatepark enthusiasts who are committed to transforming the Skatepark into a vibrant, family-friendly space. As part of this effort, the Collective wish to paint the skatepark to make the space more colourful and fun.

Council also approved the Town’s 2023 Annual Report and Statement of Financial Information (SOFI). The Annual Report highlights the Town’s accomplishments in 2023 while the SOFI provides residents with an overall picture of the Town’s financial health.

Lastly, Council directed staff to enter into an agreement with BC Hydro that would result in the installation of approximately 12 DC fast electric car chargers at the north side of Transfer Beach Boulevard and Trans-Canada Highway 1. Council also directed staff to send a letter to BC Hydro encouraging them to request a protected left hand turn light on the south bound side of the Trans-Canada Highway for safer access to the station, and for the inclusion of North American charging plugs for some of the stations.

The next Regular Meeting of Council is on Tuesday, July 2, 2024.
