Ladysmith, June 5, 2024 – Ladysmith Council met for a Regular Meeting of Council on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, with the preliminary design of the 6th Avenue reconstruction project among the agenda highlights.

The meeting started with Andrea Paris of the Zonta Club of Nanaimo giving a presentation about the organization's commitment to raise awareness about human trafficking and sexual exploitation. She discussed the prevention efforts of the club, particularly in the area of online exploitation,, and invited Council to attend the club's event on Human Trafficking Awareness Day, February 22, 2025.

Council agreed to award the Roberts Street Watermain tender project of $561,209 to In the Dirt Contracting Ltd. Council also opted to reallocate $207,505 from the Oyster Bay Watermain project and $45,000 from the Canada Community Building Fund to fund the Roberts Street Watermain project. Due to two historical watermain breaks on Roberts Street, this watermain was ranked as a high priority to replace.

These facilities require large areas of parking, pedestrian activity, and bicycle connections in addition to traffic movement..
