Ladysmith Council Notebook for May 21, 2024

Ladysmith Council met for a Public Hearing and Regular Meeting of Council on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 with the Holland Creek Public Hearing among the agenda highlights.

Lot A Holland Creek was the subject of a Public Hearing to amend the Official Community Plan and Zoning Bylaws to reallocate units for a portion of the Holland Creek neighbourhood in order to create a smaller development footprint.

Council then approved issuing both a Development Variance Permit and a Development Permit, authorizing the construction of three townhouse dwellings and two multi-unit dwellings at 670 Farrell Road.

Council also approved proposed FJCC admission changes. The changes include an annual adult admission fee increase of 3% for the next three years for adult admissions and passes, facility rentals, park permits and sport field light fees. Part of the proposed changes include altering the family definition to allow for up to two parents or guardian(s) and up to six dependent children under the age of 18 within one family. Previously the definition permitted only four children within one family. Town staff will present the proposed changes to the Cowichan North Recreation Commission and Cowichan Valley Regional District for their respective endorsements.

Lastly, Council approved donating $1,500 to the Stz’uminus First Nation in support of their upcoming Indigenous People’s Day 2024 event.

The next Regular Meeting of Council is on Tuesday, June 4, 2024.
