National Volunteer Week: Thank you Ladysmith

During National Volunteer Week, the Town of Ladysmith is celebrating and showing its appreciation for the dedicated individuals and organizations providing countless hours to improving our community, and the lives of those who call it home.

The National Volunteer Week theme for 2022, Volunteering Is Empathy In Action, affirms the strong connection between volunteerism and empathy. This profoundly human connection is at the heart of healthier individuals and stronger communities.

Locally, we’re grateful for the many projects that are ongoing or have been completed in recent months due to the leadership of our citizenry.

The Town has several committees comprised of community members who collectively provide advice and recommendations to Council.  These committees include the Parks, Recreation & Culture Advisory Committee, the Community Planning Advisory Committee and the Protective Services Committee.

The PRCAC is now recruiting for new members to fill a two-year term, ending June 30, 2024. Visit www.ladysmith.ca/volunteer for more details.

A special thank you to the Official Community Plan Steering Committee and the Arts and Heritage Hub Design Steering Committee members who continue to meet as part of these special projects.

A major accomplishment from the past year was the opening of the Downtown Public Washroom – a project that was initiated by the Ladysmith Kinsmen and involved contributions from both businesses and non-profit organizations.

Maintained by the Town, this important amenity has assisted our local businesses, particularly restaurants, during the recovery from COVID-19 when many either closed or operated in a limited storefront capacity.

At the May 3, 2022 Regular Meeting of Council, Mayor Stone and Council will recognize a longtime community volunteer Barry Frech.   After 35+ years, Frech is retiring as a volunteer with the Ladysmith Celebrations Society – organizer of Ladysmith Days.
