Town observing National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

The first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is being observed tomorrow, September 30, 2021 as together we all take time to honour the lost children and survivors of residential schools, their families and communities.

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation builds on the momentum of Orange Shirt Day and we encourage everyone to wear orange to raise awareness of the painful legacy of residential schools and honour all of the survivors.

Stz’uminus First Nation and the Town of Ladysmith are holding an event for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Thursday at the Transfer Beach Park amphitheatre, starting at 10 am.

The event will include a prayer from Stz’uminus Elder George Harris Sr., remarks from the Stz’uminus and Ladysmith councils and a performance by the Young Wolves Dance Group.

Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process.

We invite you to come to Transfer Beach tomorrow morning to listen and reflect on this important day.
