Memorial at Transfer Beach

Stz'uminus First Nation Elder George Harris, Chief Roxanne Harris and Mayor Aaron Stone gathered at the memorial honouring the 215 victims of the former Kamloops Residential School.

The ceremony came as the Cowessess First Nation shared that 751 unmarked graves have been discovered in Saskatchewan near the site of a former residential school.

We extend our sincere condolences to all First Nations, Métis and Inuit who continue to grieve during this difficult time.

Town staff have now relocated the memorial to the nearby Salish Wind canoe where the public can continue to gather and remember the lost souls who didn't return home.
