Town maintaining core services as facility hours are reduced

The Town of Ladysmith is scaling back operations at public facilities until further notice as we take necessary precautions to limit the spread of Covid-19 in our community.

Effective Tuesday, March 17, Town-run facilities including Frank Jameson Community Centre, Aggie Hall and Forrest Field will be closed to the public.

These measures are meant to safeguard the public health of our residents and were approved by Ladysmith Council at a special meeting on Monday, in accordance with the latest recommendations from the Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry to limit public gatherings to 50 people.

The Cowichan Valley Regional District will also close all recreational facilities and community centres as of Tuesday.

The Town will continue to maintain all of our essential services such as utilities, garbage collection, communications, finance and governance at this time.

Limiting the spread of Covid-19 is the highest priority for the Town and Council at this time.

City Hall, Development Services and Infrastructure Services staff will be available during regular business hours from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. to answer questions from the public.  We request at this time that residents use email or phone as the primary method of communication with Town offices.

As a result of the closure of Town-run facilities, we will be suspending all spring break day camps and classes as well as cancelling all rentals at Aggie Hall and Forrest Field until further notice.

The closure of Aggie Hall and Forrest Field will impact community programming and rentals and we apologize for any inconvenience.

Refunds will automatically be provided in the next few days.

All future public notices from the Town related to Covid-19 will be distributed through our email newsletter, posted on social media, published on our website, posted on the front door of all Town offices and facilities, as well as on the bulletin board at the corner of First Avenue and High Street.

We will also be distributing future public notices to be posted at the Ladysmith Resources Centre Association, 49th Parallel Grocery Store, Save-On-Foods,  Guardian Hillside Family Pharmacy, Ladysmith Pharmasave, RX Drug Mart and the Canada Post office.

The Town, in consultation with its CVRD member municipalities, will continue to follow the recommendations of the Provincial Health Officer and health authorities with respect to other actions we may need to take to help prevent the spread of Covid-19 in our community.
