The Town of Ladysmith's Strategic Plan is a progressive vision set by Council for improving the lives of residents in a thriving town, and provides clear direction and focus for Council and staff over the current term.
Ladysmith is a charming small town with a thriving economy, vibrant downtown and picturesque waterfront, whose welcoming neighbourhoods reflect the quality of our citizens.
Ladysmith Council will meet on Tuesday nights beginning in January 2020.
Council currently meets on the first and third Monday of each month at 7 p.m. Council also gathers as the Municipal Services Committee on the second Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. unless there is no new business to discuss.
The change to Tuesdays improves overall efficiency for both Council and staff by eliminating the need to cancel meetings when they conflict with statutory holidays, such as the Civic Holiday and Labour Day.
Five Council sessions and two Municipal Services Committee meetings were cancelled this year because they fell on holidays.
In 2020, the statutory holiday schedule is such that no Council or Municipal Services Committee meetings will be cancelled.
By moving to Tuesday nights, Ladysmith Council meetings also no longer in conflict with the schedules of neighbouring municipalities such as Nanaimo and Duncan. The extra day between agenda publication and meetings also offers more time for Council, the public and staff to conduct research and prepare.
As part of the changes, the Municipal Services Committee is being renamed to the Committee of the Whole. All six Councillors as well as the Mayor sit on the committee.
The Committee of the Whole will assemble on the second Tuesday of every second month. The next meeting of Council is January 7, 2020.
Council and CoW agenda packages will continue to be published on our website on the Thursday before each meeting. **Click image to enlarge**
