Ladysmith, BC — Advance voting in the 2025 mayoral by-election has concluded, with a total of 450 electors casting their ballots over a two-day period (February 19 and February 26). There were 132 ballots cast on February 19 and 318 ballots cast on February 26.
“The Town appreciates the community’s engagement in the electoral process. We look forward to welcoming voters on March 1 and encourage all eligible residents to cast their ballots and have their voices heard,” says Donna Smith, the Town's Chief Election Officer.
General voting in the by-election will be held from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm at the Frank Jameson Community Centre on Saturday, March 1. All advance voting ballots, mail ballots and general voting day ballots will be counted after voting closes on March 1. Preliminary results will be available on the Town’s website and social media on March 1 once voting closes and the ballots have been tallied.
Voter registration is available on the day of voting. To be eligible to vote, you must be 18 or older, a Canadian Citizen and resident of the Town of Ladysmith or a registered Town of Ladysmith property owner and resident of British Columbia for at least six months before voting day. Individuals who are not registered must bring two pieces of ID that prove your residency and identity, including one with your signature.
Mail ballot voting is still available for those expecting to be absent or who are unable to vote in person. Individuals must complete and submit a mail ballot application to receive a Mail Ballot. Applications are available online or can be picked up at the front counter at City Hall during regular business hours. The deadline for applications is Friday, February 28 at 12:00 pm.
