Town downgrades to Stage 2 water restrictions

Ladysmith, BC – Water restrictions have been downgraded from Stage 3 to Stage 2 for the Town of Ladysmith as of September 27, 2024.

Under Stage 2, outdoor watering is not permitted between 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. This is because watering in the evening, nighttime or early morning reduces water wasted due to evaporation and spreads peak water use. Lawn sprinkling is permitted for 2 hours per designated day (Wednesdays for even-numbered addresses and Sundays for odd-numbered addresses).

The Town had imposed Stage 3 water restrictions in July to help control water usage during the hot, dry weather throughout the summer. The effort was successful in reducing consumption and the Town appreciates the efforts of residents to conserve water.

The Town’s water supply is sufficient to support reducing the restrictions currently. Most other communities within the CVRD, including Duncan and Lake Cowichan, have also lowered water restrictions within their communities because of the wet weather.

Decisions on when to revise water restrictions are based on provincial drought ratings, rainfall forecasts and reservoir levels for the various watersheds within the CVRD region.

The Town of Ladysmith respectfully acknowledges that we gather and work on the unceded territory of the Stz'uminus First Nation, the traditional keepers of this land.
