Ladysmith Mayor Aaron Stone steps down

Ladysmith, BC – Mayor Aaron Stone announced that he is stepping down from his role as mayor of Ladysmith, effective September 30.

Mayor Stone will also step down as chair of the Cowichan Valley Regional District, effective the same date.

Councillor Tricia McKay will serve as Acting Mayor starting October 1, with a byelection planned for Spring 2025.

“This is a difficult decision that I have come to after many weeks of deliberation and discussion with my family, friends, and closest advisors,” says Mayor Aaron Stone. “I will spend the next four weeks working with my colleagues to ensure my departure is as smooth as possible.”

Mayor Stone has served as Ladysmith’s mayor since he was first elected in 2014.

“It was an honour and a privilege to serve as mayor in the community that I love and call home,” adds Mayor Stone. “I want to thank everyone for their support over the years. It has truly been a rewarding and enriching experience that I will cherish for the rest of my life.”

The Town of Ladysmith extends its gratitude to Mayor Stone for his service and dedication to the community over the past nine years.
