The Town of Ladysmith is once again offering an exciting opportunity for area artists to create vibrant public art banner designs to further animate our bustling downtown core. We are seeking design submissions from emerging and professional artists of all ages from Ladysmith, Stz’uminus and the surrounding area.
The 2024 theme for the Community Public Art Banner Program is “Ladysmith Celebrates” and highlights the Town’s festivals and celebrations through art; our many events create opportunities to gather, foster community, strengthen relationships, and celebrate culture and diversity.
Each submission package will include a complimentary pair of designs (2 banners) and should be received by Monday, January 29, 2024, at 4 pm.
The call for submissions, entry form and guidelines are all available on the Town's website. One honorarium of $1,000 will be awarded to the artist whose panel design pair is chosen by the Selection Committee.
The two new designs will be installed on 1st Avenue in Spring 2024.
Over 150 banners are installed annually on light standards, beautifying the downtown during the high season for tourism and local events. Be a part of sharing our story and help us create a welcoming downtown.
The Town's banner program aligns with key priorities from Ladysmith Council’s Strategic Plan such as implementing projects for enhancing downtown as well as implementing recommendations from the Public Art Strategy.
